BASIC FRENCH GREETINGS THROUGH HINDI

Bonjour This is one of the most frequently used words in French conversations. �Bonjour� is the greeting word that people use when the meet each other. It is the equivalent to �namaste�, �as-salamu alaykum� etc The pronunciation of �bonjour� is /bonzhooh/. It can be written in Hindi somewhat like ?????? but remember the the �j� should be pronounced /zh/. It is the same sound of �s� in �pleasure�, �measure� etc If someone greets you �bonjour�, you should also greet them back by saying �bonjour�. This greeting word can be used any time of the day. So, a �bonjour� can also be used in place of �good morning�, �good afternoon�, �good evening� etc �Bonjour� is a polite, standard formal word that can be used to greet anyone of any age. It shows politeness and respect. But don�t use this word while taking leave i.e., don�t say �bonjour� to mean �goodbye�, �good night� etc. Use your �bonjour� only when you meet someone, not while leaving them. You can use �salut� with your friends, colleagues, those who are younger than you etc. So, what is the difference between �bonjour� and �salut�? Yes you know it. The first one is a formal greeting that can be used with your boss, seniors, elders or anyone that you need to show respect to. It can also be used with anyone regardless of your relationship with them. �Salut� is an informal expression that is mostly used with your friends, children or anyone that you do not need to be so formal with. NEW YEAR VOCABULARY IN FRENCH (THROUGH HINDI)

The new Year is here. 2018. Full of new hopes. Time to reflect upon the year 2017 that just whizzed past. We at Nova French & English Campus wish you all a Happy New Year. May the Almighty bless you with abundant wealth, good health and envious longevity! So, being the learners of French language, let�s see how the people of France greet someone on New Year. The French expression is �Bonne ann�e�. This means �Happy New Year�. Bonne ann�e literally means �happy year�. Don�t ask me why the French do not use the word �new� in this expression. Even one of my native French friend told me they just say Bonne ann�e by convention. How to say Happy New Year in French (Video lesson in Hindi) If you are in France on the New Year day, you would most often hear people say something more with the usual Bonne ann�e. That is Bonne sant� which means �good health to you�. So, the French often say both these expressions together: �bonne ann�e et bonne sant�� i.e. �Happy New Year & Good Health to You! In countries like India, people wish New Year even in advance. People and businesses often wish �Happy New Year in Advance�. But in France, there is an entirely different scenario. it�s not considered polite or decent to wish someone �happy new year� before the Eve of New Year. However, you can wish people bonne ann�e throughout the month of January. People become �bonne ann�e robots� in French in the month of January. Wherever you go, you�ll see people wishing �bonne ann�e� �bonne ann�e� �bonne ann�e�. However, make sure that you do not wish anyone New Year after the 31st of January, even if you are meeting someone for the first time that year. That will make you look stupid! Another related word that you might be interested in is �le r�veillon� which means �New Year�s Eve�. Yes the evening before the New Year�s Day. If you want to wish someone in different ways on New Year, try these: �sant� et bonheur� (Wish You health & Happiness) �sant� et bonheur pour 2018� (Wish You health & Happiness for 2018) �tous mes voeux de r�ussite� (I wish you every success) sant�, bonheur et r�ussite pour 2018 (Wish you Health, Happiness and Success for 2018) And what is New Year celebration without a few bottles of champagne? Well, the French for Champagne is champagne. Yes the same word, letter by letter! If you get boozy and drink too much champagne, you might end up in �hangover� the next morning. The French call hangover, �la gueule de bois�. Often �hangover� is followed by a bad �headache�, isn�t it? In French a �headache� is �mal de t�te�. French alphabet through Hindi

So you are here to learn the French alphabet. Yes, after all, this is where we all start to learn a new language. Here's the French alphabet: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z. What's that? Isn't it English alphabet? Yes it is. But, at the same time, it is the French alphabet as well. Interesting, isn't it? Now you might be super-excited thinking that you already know the French alphabet? Yes you do but only the written format. Why? Because the letters in French alphabet are pronounced differently. All the letters? Relax. Not all but most of them. If you are a speaker of Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi or most other Indian languages who can read Hindi and English, the following will help you to learn French alphabet through Hindi in no time. In French alphabet, you might have noticed that some letters are pronounced almost the same as they are in English alphabet? Which are those letters? F, L, M, N, O, Q and S. A great relief, uh? But please be careful. These letters are pronounced 'almost' the same way as they are in English, not exactly the same way. You need to listen to them again and again and observe how slightly different these letters' pronunciation is. And needless to say, the remaining 19 letters are pronounced in an entirely different way. Some Hindi speakers may find them a bit different and confusing. But remember when a French speaker tries to learn Hindi, they also might have to feel a lot of such difficulties at the beginning. Should I learn French to go to Canada on study visa?

A number of students who are planning of going to Canada for their higher studies often ask this question. Well. The quickest and straightforward answer is 'No'. You don't need to learn French to 'get your student visa to Canada' or to even reach there and study. But the real question is: "will a basic knowledge of French help me there in any way?" The answer now is a big 'YES' . It will. How? Let's see. French language can help you in four different ways in Canada. 1. Get Job Quickly.

First of all, Canada, being predominantly a bilingual country, you will come across a mixture of English and French speaking residents. So, a somewhat good knowledge of French will land you in a job as quickly as possible. How? Most employers in Canada prefer to recruit candidates who can speak some French along with English communication skills. This is because their customers or clients consist of both English and French-speaking people. For example, let's suppose you got a job at a McDonald's�restaurant in some Canadian city. You can speak only English. Suddenly a French-speaking guy turns up, feeling real hungry. He orders, 's'il vous�pla�t me�procurer�des tranches d'aplle'? You're unable to understand what he ordered so you feel like 'what the hell was that!' And if the customer doesn't know English, your boss will lose that business. Do you think he will continue to keep� you further as his employee? Chances are remote. So, in order to avoid such embarrassing situations, I would strongly recommend that you learn some French before flying to Canada, even if you are going on a study visa. 2. Earn More Money.

We've already seen that Canada is a bilingual country. So, not only will French help you to find a job easily, but also will enable you to earn a handsome salary that your friends (who can speak only English) will feel jealous of you. The reason must already be clear to you from the previous point. Yes, as you are bilingual (who speak both English and French), you will be paid more dollars per hour, per day, per month... or whatever the frequency of your payment is going be. There is an acute shortage of bilingual waiters, salespersons, drivers, delivery boys, manual laborers etc in Canada. 3. Adaptation to Canadian environment.

Once you land in a foreign country, one of the most important things to become successful there is to make friends with the locals. You can make more friends and local contacts in Canada with your French-speaking skills, coupled with a good knowledge of spoken English. What more? When it comes to getting PR, French could help you to speed up the process. (Not a mandatory requirement though.) This is particularly true in the case of those who want to be permanent residents in the French-speaking provinces, or those who are unable to get settled in the most popular provinces in the country. Well now some of you might wonder: Can't I learn French after reaching in Canada?' Of course you can. But with this hope in mind, many people land in Canada on student visa or work permit. Most of them end up having not enough time even to attend their college or do part-time work. What is DELF?

DELF is the most popular beginners level French exam taken by non-native French learners around the world. DELF stands for�Dipl�me d��tudes en Langue Fran�aise. English translation:�Diploma in French Language Studies. The DELF has 4 independent diplomas, corresponding to the four levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFRL). These levels are DELF A1, DELF A2, DELF B1 and DELF B2. See the table below:

You can take any DELF exam according to your current level of knowledge in French language. Also, you don't need any specific educational qualification to register for this test, just as in the case of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). It is not necessary to clear every level of DELF exam before moving to a higher level. For example, if you have sufficient knowledge to take the A2 level test, then you don't have to pass A1 first. This rule is applicable to any level of the DELF diploma exam. FOUR LEVELS OF DELF EXAMS AT A GLANCE: DELF A1 DELF A1 is designed to assess your most basic level knowledge of French. At this stage, you should just be able to interact (listen, read, write and speak) in simple ways. You are expected to be able to speak about yourself and your immediate environment such as your family, hometown, education etc. DELF A2 DELF A2 tests whether you have acquired the basic competency in French as a "social actor". You will be tested to communicate in simple, routine tasks that require the most common polite phrases and exchanges of information. DELF B1 DELF B1 tests whether you are capable of being an independent and competent user of French.� You will be required to to maintain spoken and written interaction longer than a A1 or A2 level user. As a DELF B1 level user, you will be able to understand and maintain a discussion and give your opinion. You will be capable of dealing with most frequent day-to-day situations likely to arise in life. DELF B2 You are able to use French with a certain degree of independence at DELF B2 level. You can construct arguments to defend your opinion, explain your viewpoint and negotiate. This level requires from you a degree of fluency and spontaneity in regular interactions, and the ability to correct your own mistakes.

Crazy English

Although not perfect, I am somewhat confident about my English communication skills. It took years of hard work which is still going on to get a good command of English. However, I am still confused about some strange features of this beautiful language. Let me share a few of such strange characteristics I came across in English: As we all know, AIDS is the short form of Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. While UNO stands for United Nations Organization, MBBS is for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Such short forms of word groups are known as �abbreviations� in English. Abbreviations are extremely helpful to the speakers to convey their ideas precisely instead of memorizing their long complicated full-forms. But my doubt is why �abbreviation� is such a long word? Being a language enthusiast and a teacher, I often see my students finding it so hard to spell or pronounce this word. Don't you think the weird spelling and difficult pronunciation of the word 'abbreviation' stand in sharp contrast to the meaning it conveys? And now, many people often find it so hard to remember the spelling of such word pairs as �stationary� and �stationery� correctly. To overcome this problem, they can use a technique. For example, if you are not sure whether to use �er� or �ar� in stationery (to mean paper, pencil etc), just remember the �er� in paper. It will definitely ease the confusion a lot! This technique of remembering the spellings of words is called �mnemonics�. But again strangely enough, don�t you think that the very word �mnemonic� is so hard to remember and spell? The 5 Most Spoken Languages in the World

Have you ever wondered which language has the highest number of speakers in the world? Is it English? No. French? not at all. Must be Spanish. No way amigos! Along with the ever-growing global population and inter-continental migrations, the number of speakers of a particular language keeps changing. However, to surprise of many, Mandarin (the official language of China) is the language spoken by the highest number of people in the world. And you guessed the reason, didn't you? Yes China is the most populated country, hence Mandarin the language spoken by the highest number of people. As simple as that! The total number of Mandarin speakers is a whopping 1.9 billion at the time this blog was written. Among them nearly 900 million are native speakers and the rest (more than 190 million) are second language speakers. English comes second with an impressive 983 million speakers. English is also considered as the 'world language' as it is used internationally (geographical distribution) and is learned and spoken by a large number of people as a�second language in almost every country in the world. Another interesting thing about English is that the number of people who speak this language as their second language is more than that of the native speakers i.e., 611 million and 377 million respectively. The third most widely spoken language is Hindustani (Hindi/Urdu). Close to 550 million people use modern Hindi and Urdu language worldwide. As Hindi and Urdu are mutually intelligible, they are considered by linguists to be dialects of the same language. With a seemingly uncontrollable population growth in Hindustani speaking countries, the speakers of this language are likely explode in the coming decades. With a total number of 527 million speakers, Spanish enjoys the fourth position in the list. However this language deserves the second position, second only to Mandarin, if only the native speakers are counted because 436 million of the total Spanish speakers use it as their mother tongue. Arabic is the fifth language in the list with its more than 420 million speakers worldwide. This language is the lingua franca�(common language of communication) in the Arab World. Arabic-speaking countries include Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Oman, Egypt etc.
